Q&A with Primeval Forest Nursery: A Rebellious Spirit Rooted in Native Plants

Posted on | Chapter Event, Native Plant Day, Nursery Feature

As we count down to Wild Ones Western New York’s first-ever Native Plant Day on June 14, we’re continuing to spotlight the amazing native plant nurseries participating in this regional celebration. Every few days, we’re sharing a new feature to help you connect with the nurseries working to restore habitat and bring native plants back to our communities.

Today we’re excited to introduce Primeval Forest Nursery—a unique and vibrant addition to the Western New York native plant scene. With a team of friends-turned-cofounders, a car wash-turned-nursery, and a bold, independent approach to ecological restoration, Primeval Forest brings both energy and originality to their mission.

What inspired you to focus on native plants?
After years of one of our owners working in various nurseries in Western New York, she noticed a need for more native species restoration and education for home gardeners. Her passion for restoring ecosystems and plant care inspired the original idea, which inspired us to join.

What makes your nursery unique?
Primeval Forest is run by three longtime friends who went from moshing together to planting together. Much like our location went from a car wash to a lush nursery. Our rebelliousness is present in the way we handle plant care to the types of species we work with. We like to carve our own path and help others do the same.

What is one small thing a homeowner can do to help their native ecosystem?
Check out a native plant YouTube channel. There is quality information out there, and it can be a great starting point to the world of native plants. Follow up with Facebook groups or local nurseries to make sure the information is correct and beneficial.

Why shop at local native plant nurseries?
Shopping local is similar to planting native. You’re directly investing into the growth and wellness of the local economy. Not to mention, a lot of us offer education that is tailored to our unique and evolving ecosystems.

Why are you excited about Wild Ones Native Plant Day on June 14?
We’re excited to participate with other local nurseries. We love cooperation and collaboration!
