On April 17, Wild Ones Western New York hosted a vibrant Spring Gathering at the Harlem Road Community Center—and what a night it was! With more than 60 attendees joining us, the evening was full of connection, inspiration, and a shared passion for native plants and the ecosystems they support.
The evening began with a warm welcome and an overview of the Wild Ones mission from our Chapter President, Joseph Han. We reflected on our early growth and shared a look ahead at the exciting programs planned for the rest of the year.

We also took time to recognize some of our Super Wild Volunteers, whose energy and commitment have helped our chapter grow quickly in just a few short months.
One highlight of the night was introducing the people behind the scenes: our Board of Directors, Officers, and Committee Chairs. We shared a bit about who we are, where we’re from, and why we’re involved.
From there, the evening turned interactive. In a “Memories” activity, attendees paired up and shared native plants tied to meaningful moments in their lives—recent or long ago. These stories reflected the deep emotional and ecological connections people form with the natural world.
Later, we invited everyone to talk about their own passions and talents. In small groups, attendees explored where they might like to plug into the chapter—whether by joining an existing committee or suggesting new areas for involvement. Notes were collected and will help guide the chapter as we grow our volunteer base and deepen our impact.
We wrapped up the night with a native plant and seed giveaway, followed by a lively mix-and-mingle session filled with conversations, new friendships, and that unmistakable spring energy.
This gathering was a meaningful milestone in a season of growth for our chapter. It affirmed how much interest and enthusiasm exists in our region for native plants, habitat restoration, and grassroots change.
Thank you to everyone who came out, shared your stories, and offered your support. If you missed the event and want to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
